How Search engines work
A search engine finds information for its database by accepting listings sent in
by authors wanting exposure, or by getting the information from their "Web crawlers,"
"spiders," or "robots," programs that roam the Internet storing links to
and information about each page they visit.
How does any spider start its travels over the Web?
The usual starting points are lists of heavily used servers and very popular pages.
The spider will begin with a popular site, indexing the words on its pages and
following every link found within the site. In this way, the spidering system
quickly begins to travel, spreading out across the most widely used portions
of the Web.
What Happens Once My Site Is Published?
Once your site is finished and published, we submit it to the search engines. Currently
it is taking around 3 months for spiders to locate new sites and pages, and even then it cannot be guaranteed that your site will be found. However, as part of your quarterly maintenance with us, we will re-publish your
site every month, that way keeping it "visible" to search engines.
How Does My Site Get A Good Ranking?
Besides regular updating, to help boost your sites visibility we use Meta Tags.
Meta
tags allow the owner of a page to specify key words and concepts under
which the page will be indexed.
For example if your company is transport based, Meta tags such as "delivery","transport","urgent"
and "parcel" would be inserted. So should someone search for "Urgent
Parcel Delivery", the meta tags can guide the search engine in hopefully
your sites direction (along with every other parcel delivery site of course!!!!)
It is worth pointing out however that any Meta Tags used must be relevant
to your pages contents so if your site doesn't included the tags used somewhere
in the text, then it will be ignored.
What Is Quarterly Maintenance?
Sites which are updated more often than others should get a higher ranking.
Those which are never updated get left behind and eventually disappear from some
search engines altogether. That is where our quarterly maintenance comes in.
We update your homepage every month and also make any changes you need (phone
numbers etc.) to keep your site up to date. Many other companies will charge extra (some as high as £65 per change!)
